Technician Training: Mission/Contacts
Mission
The National Maintenance Training Center has been missioned by NGB-ARL-M to provide Maintenance Training and Instruction on the M1 Abrams Tank to ARNG Maintenance Technicians. The training and instruction consists of a combination of Field and Sustainment level tasks, in Hull, Turret, and troubleshooting techniques. The course is designed for ARNG Maintenance Technicians that work at a CSMS, MATES, UTES, or FMS that have responsibility to repair M-1 Abrams. The instruction is 20 days in length Monday through Friday 0700 – 1600 each day for four weeks. There is no instruction on weekends. All instruction is a combination of classroom and hands on with the end item and special diagnostic gear.
Limited overview of the instruction includes troubleshooting of the electrical systems and fire suppression systems, characteristics of the AGT 1500 engine and X1100-3B transmission, troubleshooting of the turret electrical system, and remove and replace the gun tube, gun elevation drive and gunner's primary sight. The course now includes instruction on the M1A1 Embedded Diagnostic (ED) tank system.
