Technician Training: Mission/Contacts
Mission
The National Maintenance Training Center has been missioned by NGB-ARL-M to provide Maintenance Training and Instruction on the M1 Abrams Tank to ARNG Maintenance Technicians. The training and instruction consists of a combination of Field and Sustainment level tasks, in Hull, Turret, and troubleshooting techniques. The course is designed for ARNG Maintenance Technicians that work at a CSMS, MATES,
UTES, or FMS that have responsibility to repair M-1 Abrams. The instruction is 20 days in length Monday through Friday 0700 – 1600 each day for four weeks. There is no instruction on weekends. All instruction is a combination of classroom and hands on with the end item and special diagnostic gear.
Course dates may be found in ATRRS under School Code 966, Course Number: 964-M1MIC.
There is also a modified version of the instruction that is appropriate for M-Day Soldiers that are MOS qualified 63A’s that are assigned to Forward Support Companies – (Maintenance Platoons). The course design is 11 or 12 days in length and is a scaled down version of the 20 day course offered to military technicians. The instruction will be offered to Heavy BCT’s that are authorized the M1 Abrams and will be given by the same staff that teaches the Technician training course. The M-Day training course will be similar to the technician course, but modified to fit either a two or three week annual training period.
The NMTC Operations personnel will schedule the Heavy FSC (Maintenance Platoons) to train at the NMTC during periods that the Technician course is not being conducted.
Limited overview of the instruction includes troubleshooting of the electrical systems and fire suppression systems,
characteristics of the AGT 1500 engine and X1100-3B transmission, troubleshooting of the turret electrical system,
and remove and replace the gun tube, gun elevation drive and
gunner's primary sight.
Point of contact for additional information is Mr. Mike Roney at 515.727.3584 or DSN 431.3584.
