Commander
Lieutenant Colonel Bruce R. Walton, Jr.
Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Walton assumed duties as Commander of the National Maintenance Training Center in August 2010.
As the NMTC Commander, he oversees, coaches and mentors the training and readiness of Soldiers with full spectrum of logistic training. He insures that Soldiers are resourced with modern maintenance and logistics facilities equipped with state of the art tooling, TMDE and the most modern end items and components to train with. He teaches company level technical collective maintenance and logistics training to Field Maintenance Companies, Support Maintenance Companies, Maintenance Platoons in the Forward Support Company and Component Repair Companies. As the Commander he is also responsible to coordinate and train both technical and tactical training to Brigade Support Battalions and Combat Sustainment Support Battalions.
Prior to assuming command of the National Maintenance Training Center, Lieutenant Colonel Walton served as the Maintenance Branch Chief, Logistics Division at the National Guard Bureau. During this assignment he also deployed as the NGB Liaison Officer for the Army Materiel Command’s Responsible Retrograde Task Force at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. He has more than 24 years of service in the Army National Guard.
LTC Walton received his commission from Officer’s Candidate School at the Delaware Military Academy. His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Army Service Medal. While in the Delaware Army National Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Walton served in progressive leadership assignments as Maintenance Officer, Detachment Commander and ultimately the Company Commander of the 945th Light Equipment Maintenance Company. His battalion/brigade level leadership assignments included Systems Engineer of the 280th Signal Battalion; S3 and XO of the 198th Signal Battalion culminating as the Systems Control Officer of the 261st Signal Brigade. He then entered the Army National Guard Title Ten program as the Army National Guard Assistant Chief of Staff, Ordnance Center & School. LTC Walton received a Bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in 1984 and a Masters degree from Wilmington College in 1999. He is a 2004 graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College.
