insertLieutenant Colonel Donald R. Byrd

Lieutenant Colonel Don Byrd assumed duties as Commander of the National Maintenance Training Center in August 2008.

As the NMTC Commander, he oversees, coaches and mentors the training and readiness of Soldiers with full spectrum of logistic training. He insures that Soldiers are resourced with modern maintenance and logistics facilities equipped with state of the art tooling, TMDE and the most modern end items and components to train with. He teaches company level technical collective maintenance and logistics training to Field Maintenance Companies, Support Maintenance Companies, Maintenance Platoons in the Forward Support Company and Component Repair Companies. As the Commander he is also responsible to coordinate and train both technical and tactical training to Brigade Support Battalions and Combat Sustainment Support Battalions.

LTC Byrd received his commission from Officer’s Candidate School at the Alabama Military Academy in 1988. Throughout his career, LTC Byrd served in various positions to include Maintenance Officer, 167th Materiel Management Center, Homewood, AL; Logistics Officer, Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras; Company Commander, 650th Ordnance Company, Clanton, AL; Plans Officer, 167th Support Command, Homewood, AL; S3/Logistics Operation Officer, Theater Support Brigade, Ft. Clayton, Panama; Logistics Planner, USJFCOM, Joint Task Force-Civil Support, Norfolk, VA; Interagency Operations Office, USNORTHCOM, Joint Task Force-Civil Support, Ft. Monroe, VA; Logistics Operations Office, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; Chief of the Command Logistic Review Team, NGB-ARL, Arlington, VA and Assistant to the Chief of Staff, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

LTC Byrd military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the HQDA Staff Officer Badge.

LTC Byrd’s military education includes the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Army Command and General Staff College and the National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College.
